The Truth About Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are an important part of your skin care routine, but they are also the piece that causes the most confusion among our clients. Most of this confusion is derived from the name! We are going to sort through the information so that you can be well educated.
Clearing up some concerns about Chemical Peels
Concern #1: Chemical peel sounds a little scary.
Maybe the term 'Chemical' makes you think of an un-natural process. This treatment is quite the opposite. The Epionce™ Peel System utilizes the power of nature! It features good things like naturally occurring fruit acids and enzymes to prompt your skin to increase its cellular turnover. This means that the collagen production, which slows as we age, is sped back up.
With the increase in your collagen production, the top layer of your skin cells will slough off, hence the word peel. This light peeling happens gradually and is typically completed within 4-5 days after a treatment.
Concern #2: Chemical peel sounds like it hurts.
What is the first question that we always ask when contemplating having a treatment for the first time? Our Estheticians answer this question all the time- 'Is it going to hurt?'. This treatment, which typically takes about an hour, does have a few moments of discomfort. As the enzymes in the peel work they create some heat. A little heat is okay and very tolerable. Intense heat is not okay, we call these hot spots. If you have hot spots, the Esthetician is prepared to cool them down. After the heat levels-out, the Esthetician cools your skin with cold gauze pads.
Concern #3: Will this interrupt my busy life?
This is a relatively quick treatment with little to no down time. In most cases this treatment is completed in about an hour, allowing you to return to work with just a little redness. We do encourage you to use the skin care products in the Epionce™ Skin Barrier Repair Kit after your treatment to speed up the healing process and give you the best result. They include Milky Lotion Cleanser, Medical Barrier Cream, and Active Shield 30 sunscreen.
Chemical peels should be performed every other month as part of your skin care routine. They are an easy way to improve the texture of your skin, and to slow down the aging process.
